ShopKeep is looking for a gifted software developer to join a team that is revolutionizing how retailers and customers interact. Our company is at the forefront of point of sale (POS System) solutions technology, continuing to develop and distribute our iPad app, which packages a cash register, business reporting tools and superior customer service into one compact and beautiful product.

In simple terms, we have our knee on the windpipe of the traditional cash register business. For more than a century, these clunky boxes have taken up valuable counter space at bars, restaurants and coffee shops, and have served as a costly impediment to small business ownership. They are notorious for their lack of reliability, their shady supply chain and their DMV-like customer service.

This market is ripe for disruption, and Shopkeep continues to remain ahead of the game (that’s where you come in). We are changing the way local businesses leverage technology. Our cloud-based system allows merchants to work offline, create in-depth sales and inventory analysis, and chuck the register for a visually pleasing, easy-to-use interface. Even better, our product is much less cash intensive for small businesses.

And the evidence that we are on the right track: Our growth is staggering. Our customer list keeps growing, we just closed a round of financing (read about it here), and we are about to move into new office space. What we’re missing are creative, ambitious people to help build the new features that will not only lead to the replacement of all these ugly registers (bonus points if you can come up with a derogatory name for them), but also transform the way merchants do business. Responsibilities

• Contribute to the architecture of our mobile and back office apps
• Develop tests (our religion is TDD, RSpec is one of our gods, Selenium is his loyal sidekick)
• Write entirely new code, maintain and update existing code
• Participate in the design conversation and improve our architecture

Qualifications

• A bachelors degree in computer science and/or strong contributions to the coding community
• A strong grasp of computer science fundamentals
• Agile development practices and test-driven development
• In-depth knowledge of Ruby / Rails
• A good sense of what looks good / feels good to consumers, or how you would like to order your coffee in a perfect world
• The ability to jump into a project and contribute immediately to both architecture and implementation
• Great communication and collaboration skills
• The ability to take pride in creating something important while gracefully sharing the credit with the rest of your team

Experience with the following technologies and applications is preferred but not required:

• Ruby / Rails
• SQL
• iOS
• Multi-tier web applications
